Radislav Krstić: the procedural conduct of the criminal proceedings before the ICTY
Kučera, Milan ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (advisor) ; Teichman, Miroslav (referee)
The Bachelor's thesis Radislav Krstić: the procedural progress of a criminal proceeding before ICTY is a case study analysing the fulfilment of the right to just trial in the Krstić case. The analysed subject was chosen for its close connection to the consolidation of the western Balkan countries, in which the Tribunal had become involved, that is mainly in pursuance of development of democratic institutions and judicial reforms. The ICTY's opportunity of consolidation originated from the Tribunal's judicial praxis, which had had to be convincing and just enough to have confirmed the leaders of these countries that the returned verdicts were in their interest as well. This way the Tribunal gained the credibility needed, and the countries of former Yugoslavia let it intervene with their internal affairs. Although a successful cooperation was established, the author asks himself whether the influence of mass media over the decision making of courts could have influenced trials before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. Therefore the thesis analyses the procedural progress with R. Krstić, who was the first one convicted of genocide, and received one of the three most severe sentences of that time. Consequently, the author analyses the most significant provisions of the Rules...
Cooking and Dining in Times of War and Peace: Changing Contexts and Modes of Food Production, Preparation and Consumption in Srebrenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Slavková, Markéta ; Bittnerová, Dana (advisor) ; Šístek, František (referee) ; Halbich, Marek (referee)
Cooking and Dining in Times of War and Peace: Changing Contexts and Modes of Food Production, Preparation and Consumption in Srebrenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina Mgr. Markéta Slavková Abstract (English) This project opens up the topic of armed conflict and subsequent post-conflict development in the Former Yugoslavia from a non-traditional perspective - that of the anthropology of food. At the centre of attention there stand the ways in which the production, preparation and consumption of food were and are carried out in Srebrenica, BiH in the context of the dramatic changes that the region has undergone over the last few decades. Food is the precondition of reproduction, a primary form of interaction with the world, a mediator of socialization, a sign of identity and social cohesion but also a tool of power. In this sense, Farquhar notes that the "mantra" 'You are what you eat,' continues to be thematized by social sciences (Farquhar, 2006: 146). On the other hand, the question of the relationship between social actors and their "daily bread" in conditions of starvation and overall material scarcity in wartime has not been satisfyingly answered. This project, based on long-term ethnographic fieldwork, addresses these issues more closely, affording greater insight into them.
The Srebrenica massacre as Dutch national trauma: Discourse analysis of selected daily newspapers
Ratajová, Klára ; Žíla, Ondřej (advisor) ; Šístek, František (referee)
Although more than 23 years have passed since the event known as the Srebrenica massacre, it is still a live topic in Dutch society. The Dutch troops who served on a UN peace mission in Srebrenica have been blamed for not being able to prevent the death of such a large number of innocent people. Moreover, the survivors of the killed Bosnian Muslims are still suing the Netherlands over compensations. The aim of the thesis is to find out who was blamed for the Srebrenica massacre by the Dutch society - the soldiers who served the mission, their commanders, the Netherlands, the international community or other sides involved. To reach the aim, discourse analysis was applied on articles published over a period of ten years in two influential Dutch newspapers - De Volkskrant and NRC Handelsblad. The time period from June 2007 to June 2017 was selected for the analysis as a number of key court cases took place during this particular period. The cases had a major influence on the development of the discourse of blame, which is studied in the thesis in detail. Apart from the analytical part, the thesis also includes a contextual part where historical events leading to the Srebrenica massacre are dealt with as well as the role of the Dutch peacekeepers.

Srebrenica massacre and its diverse perception in scientific literature
Šanca, Filip ; Žíla, Ondřej (advisor) ; Otčenášek, Jaroslav (referee)
Srebrenica massacre remains unexplained in many aspects. Views of authors on it vary vastly in almost all respects. The tragedy was misused on purpose as a tool of propaganda. Not only the number of victims, but also the facts alone were altered according to one's particular interests. Comprehensive treatise on the diverse perception probably does not exist; and if, it is purposely distorted again. The aim of my work is not to undoncitionally determine which of the sides were right and which of them considerably changed the history by its uncritical interpretation. I am not going to try to examine the act itself, but the views on it. Secondary literature will thus be the main source of my work. First of all, I am going to outline the historical and political context of Srebrenica massacre. Main topic and core of my work is going to be analysed in the second part, where I am going to focus on the perception of massacre in scientific literature itself. That is in point of view of the participants themselves and of the states of International Comunity that analysed the case from afar. My aim is to examine the particular views and to compare them.

Srebrenica massacre from the perspective of media
Malešová, Romana ; Dubský, Zbyněk (advisor) ; Eichler, Jan (referee)
The aim of the bachelor thesis Srebrenica massacre from the perspective of media is to explain how selected media perceived Srebrenica massacre in 1995, using narrative analysis. The first two chapters provide theoretical basis for the paper, including characteristics of media and of narrative analysis, the latter being the methodology of practical part of this bachelor thesis. The theoretical part also includes the historical context of Srebrenica massacre. The last two chapters directly describe events that took place in Srebrenica. These chapters contain the narrative analysis of Czechoslovak and American media as well as brief characteristics of selected newspapers. The Czechoslovak periodicals provided better processed information about the situation in Srebrenica, since the American newspapers were mainly concerned with the status of the United Nations and NATO in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
